The city of Chalkida

Experience Greece in a different way. Stay in a city and intertwine with the locals. Visit numerous cafes, bars, restaurants, and theaters. This is a city where you live in a Greek way. You can hardly notice any tourists. Prices are moderate and not inflated in the season. On all public beaches you have a free use of a parasol and deck chairs if you order a drink. Chalkida, Evia

A modern and vibrant city with over 100 thousand population, only 70km away from Athens with which it has excellent connections via highways and railway. The city boasts numerous restaurants. It is the central point of the Evia island and as such offers good access to all destinations on it.

The apartment is located in the city core, just 200 m from the Chalkida old bridge. It consists of a living room, two bedrooms, a kitchen, and one and a half bathroom. It is on the fourth floor and has a nice terrace with a view on the sea. The surface area is 80 m2. A/C units in every room, a washing machine and a dishwasher provide comfort and convenience while the sattelite tv provides entertainment. The kitchen is fully equipped and bed sheets and towels (for home use) are available for use.

The season

The apartment is for rent from 15th of June until 15th of September. It is also possible to rent the apartment outside these dates upon arrangement.

The surroundings

In the vincinity of the apartment you can find a bakery, a fish store, ‘Sklavenitis’ supermarket, as well as the main attraction, the old Chalkida bridge. The train station is right across the bridge. Also on the other side, about 400 m further, is the city beach ‘Asterias’. On the bridge itself there is a cafe called ‘Mostar’ which is named after the city Mostar in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Located next to the apartment building is a syngogue, as well as a mosque which now serves as a museum, and few other museums. The city promenade strecthes out on the right from the bridge.

BEACHES WORTH VISITING

For an everyday swim you can make use of the city beach ‘Asterias’. As mentioned, it is located across the old bridge on the right side. There is a great cafe on the beach and the water is extremely clean. The beach itself is sand. Several other beaches are in the north side of the city.

Already close to the city you can find a few excellent beaches less than 10 km away. One recommended beach is ‘Lefkandi’ near the village ‘Vasiliko’. It is a great beach, shielded from northern winds. The beach ‘Alikes’ is considered to be the most beautiful. It is 8 km away close to the ‘Drosia’ village. To the north, towards the ‘Nea Artaki’ town you can find several well-kept beaches.

Further away from the city we can divide the beaches in two groups: one on the Aegean sea side of the island and on the inner sea (between the mainland and the island). On the Aegean side we recommend the ‘Limionas’, ‘Chiliadou’, ‘Kimi’, ‘Mourteri’, and ‘Almiros’ beaches. These are all great beaches up to 60 km away from the city.

On the north side of the inner sea there are ‘Daphni’ and ‘Politika’ beacehs.

There are the recommended beaches due to their distance and beauty. Of course, you can explore much further away if you like.

How to reach us?

From the Athens airport, a railway connection brings you to Chalkida in about one and a half hours and the ticket costs 16 euros. Of course, the city is also reachable by car and is connected to the main highway Athens – Thessaloniki.
